Permit Renewal & Parking Registration Answers
- I can’t log on because I don’t know my NetID or password. What should I do?
PTS does not have access to your password or NetID. If you're not sure what your NetID is or if you're not sure you have a NetID, contact the OIT Help Desk at (919) 684-2200 or the DHTS Help Desk at (919) 684-2243.

I have a permit that expires in 2008 or 2009. I previously signed up for automatic renewal. Do I need to do anything to get a new permit?
PTS will mail you a new permit for the same lot where you currently park. We recommend that you go on-line to check the mailing address for your permit and update waiting list preferences. If you do not give us an address, your permit will be mailed to your address on file with PTS. New rates are effective in September 2008.
- What are those new letters on the top of the parking permits? Mine has an "A" printed on it.
This year we've added a new feature to many permits. Some may have a large A, B, C or R above the number. Vehicles displaying a permit with an A or B above the number may park in the hourly paid spaces at the Nasher Museum of Art and the Sarah P. Duke Gardens during regular business hours without paying the hourly fee. The letters may also be used in future parking initiatives.
- I want to move to a different parking lot. Can I get a new permit assignment during on-line registration?
During the on-line renewal period, you may not change your permit assignment. However, we encourage you to add or update waiting list preferences at this time.
- What are the annual and monthly parking fees for 2008/2009?
The 2008/2009 permit rates can be viewed here.
- I want to register on-line, but do not live in the United States during the summer. Can I still buy my permit?
Yes. Permits are mailed directly to any address you specify within the continental United States. If your summer address is outside these boundaries, you should select the option to “Deliver to Duke Parking Office.” We will hold the permit for you until you return to campus and pick up your permit at our office.
- I registered on-line. When will my permit arrive?
Your permit will be mailed to your continental United States address within five business days after your order is processed. Please allow at least ten days for its arrival.
- I have a new car and license plate number. How do I get that changed in your system?
You can update vehicle and license plate information on-line or call us at (919) 684-7275.
- What methods of payment can I use for my permit?
If you are a student, your permit must be billed to your account with the Bursar’s Office. Payroll deduction is the only payment method available on-line for faculty and staff. Employees and others may pay with cash or credit card at the PTS office.
- When can I buy a 2008/2009 permit on-line?
On-line employee registration begins June 9, undergraduates begin June 16, and graduate and professional students start on June 18, 2008. All registration periods begin at 10:00 a.m. eastern time. The registration window closes for all groups on August 1, 2008, at 5:00 p.m.
