SafeRides supplements Duke’s transit service and offers an alternative to walking alone or in isolated areas of campus. SafeRides provides employees and students with free, on-demand van service to and from campus areas where bus service is not available. Passengers may be transported off-campus, but only to private residences within the boundaries. Drop offs at commercial locations are not permitted.

SafeRides service boundaries

SafeRides operates from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. daily, except Thanksgiving Holidays, Winter Break and New Years Day.

To request service, call 684-SAFE (7233), or pick up any emergency (blue) phone on campus and ask to be connected. Please notify the dispatcher of any special needs.

Tips for using SafeRides.

Medical Center Van Services provides free transportation to all Duke employees for trips between Duke Medical Center properties. Van service is available 24 hours daily. Neither Medical Center Van Service or SafeRides duplicate existing Duke Transit routes or schedules.
